Research

I previously co-founded Ubiaware, a software systems company in WLAN design and location system and a researcher at the Centre of Adaptive Wireless System, Ireland. I am founding Pervasive and Mobile Computing Group in Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia.

My research interest include wireless sensors network, machine learning, location technology, and ubiquitous computing to allow computing to fade calmly into the background of everyday life.

Recent and Ongoing Project:

1. iHome: Low-Cost Domotic for Building Automation using Internet

This project aims to develop system for controlling building/home electrical devices and appliances as a value-added service to  Internet broadband connection. WiFi and wireless sensor network technology is used for inter-device protocol. Conducted in cooperation with PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia and PT Advantic. The project already enter the final stage (3rd year). Commercialization of the product is desirable. Receive funding from Directorat of Higher Education (Dikti)  and  UGM RUSNAS project. Prototipe can be seen in here.

2. Mobile Technology for Nature and Culinary Tourism Industry

This community outreach project is conducted in three regions in Yogyakarta: Bantul, Kuloprogo and Gunung Kidul. Aimed to promote tourism based on mobile technology. Receive funding from PHK-I schema of DIKTI Indonesia. Initial prototype can be seen at jogjanan website.

3. Wireless Sensor Network for Landslide Detection

Funded by TWAS-Unesco, this project aim to utilizing WSN technology to assist landslide detection system. In cooperation with Geographic Faculty, UGM.

4. SuvI: Smart Building for Energy Saving in Indonesia

Pending funding decision. This project aims to save energy using pervasive sensor and context aware system. In cooperation with Distributed System Group, University of Groningen.

WearIT@Work is an EU project strives to apply wearable computing to increase the productivity of the work force in the areas emergency, healthcare, maintenance and car industry. This project has completed.

loconThe LocON project aims to integrate embedded location systems and embedded wireless communication in a standardised way and to develop a new platform in order to control large scale infrastructures, like airports, more efficient, secure, robust and flexible.
ubiaware

Ubiaware is a software systems company in WLAN design and location system. It offers optimisation tool for designing highly available and scalable wireless networks. It also offers localization system based on the state-of-the-art algorithm.

Learning Data Fusion for Indoor Localisation. This is my old PhD thesis  work on design and sensor fusion for location-enhanced computing. It combined machine learning and bayesian probabilistic approach to make the localization system learn and adapt to a changing environment.

NEMBES is a research programme that investigate a “whole system” approach to the design of networked embedded systems, marrying expertise in hardware, software and networking with the design and management of built environments.
